SoftBank executes final $10 billion OpenAI investment tranche

SoftBank says it executed the third and final $10 billion tranche of its follow-on OpenAI investment, bringing its ownership interest to approximately 13%.

SoftBank Group announced that it executed the third and final tranche of its follow-on investment in OpenAI on October 1, 2026, through SoftBank Vision Fund 2. The tranche was valued at $10 billion, or approximately JPY 1.58 trillion.

Completion of this tranche brings the previously announced follow-on investments to $30 billion in total. SoftBank says its cumulative investment in OpenAI now stands at $64.6 billion and its ownership interest is approximately 13%.

According to the company announcement, the tranche was funded with proceeds from foreign-currency-denominated senior notes. SoftBank also said it canceled $10 billion of undrawn capacity under a $40 billion bridge facility effective September 30, 2026.

The original social post additionally claimed that SoftBank sold its entire Nvidia stake and issued exactly $11.1 billion in bonds to fund the payment. Those details do not appear in the official announcement for this transaction, so they are not presented here as verified facts.
